Making Full Use of Office Word 2010

If you already have an Office 2010 product key, then it’s time to make full use of the platform. One of its most prominent apps is Microsoft Word. This has become a very popular word processing app and it has been used since the early 90’s. It is used in businesses, schools, universities and homes. It is, of course relatively easy to use – but there are certain things you can do to optimize your use of the suite.

Here are some useful tips for making full use of Office 2010 in Word.

Number one, you can open the Office window using two different views. This tip may work well for both Word and Excel. If you split the document window into two separate panes, you can look into and edit two different parts of a document simultaneously. If you are a student, you can work on the first chapter of your thesis at the top pane and you may also work on the last chapter and the bottom pane at the same time.  Just click the mouse to jump between the different panes or hit F6 so that you can toggle between the two panes, the status bar and also the Ribbon.

Second, you can move certain shapes and hide them in Office Word 2010.  If you are a PowerPoint user, you may be familiar with this. In using Word 2010, however – as you insert multiple shapes in a Word document or a worksheet on Excel, one of the best ways to move them forward or back is to use the Selection Pane. This is found on the Drawing Tools tab every time you are working with graphics.

Third, you can merge landscape and portraits in Word. If you intend to format your document as a portrait, then you may not change the orientation in the same document. What you can do is insert a section break right before and after the text that you intend to format in landscape. Then what you do next is apply the landscape orientation to begin.  Go to the Page Layout tab and select Breaks, then beneath Section Breaks click on New Page. The insertion point should be moved towards the end of the text you intend to view as landscape. From there, insert a break. Then you can position the insertion point anywhere around the two breaks. Go to the Page Setup dialog located on the Margins tab. This is when you select Landscape and go to the “Apply to” drop-down. Click This Section by the time you get to that tab.

These are just some of the things you can do with MS Word after you already have your Office 2010 product key. Go ahead and experiment with the apps in Office, you are sure to discover cool new features that will help improve your workflow.

Securing Your Documents in Office 2010

If you already have an Office 2010 download. Chances are that you are dealing with files that are very sensitive and require extra care and protection.  To do this, you need to go to the Backstage view and go to the Info option. It is located towards the left. This is where you will see the Protect Document button on the Permissions heading. This will give you access to different tools that you can use so that no one else can make changes to your document. And of course, this reassures other people that you have created the document yourself.

First is the Mark As Final. This is what lets the file remain in read-only. You cannot type anything in the document and neither can you edit it. With this setting, some of the Ribbon buttons are disabled as well. This provides protection from casual changes but this isn’t quite the setting to intercept deliberate tampering. You can still click mark as Final again or go to Edit Anyway to change the setting.

The second thing you can do is provide a password.  The password is a key that encrypts your file. After this Word, asks you for the password every time somebody tries to access the doc. Save the password in a place you remember it because it is irretrievable. You can also restrict editing. This is on the Restrict Formatting and Editing task pane. This is a way to limit changes into the format and edits.

Third, you can also restrict certain permissions. This uses Information Rights Management or IRM to monitor which users can view or edit the file. If your network does not have a server like IRM, you can use a free service on the Web from Microsoft. There is information on this app and a wizard so that you can set it up. Upon configuring the IRM service, you can specify the users that have Read permission for the doc and which users only have Change permission. If either party is not on the list, then they may not open the document.

Finally, one of the best and simplest ways to keep your document secure is to ensure that only you have access to your PC and that you save it in a safe place. You may also save a copy on OneDrive. Make the most out of your Office 2010 download and be sure to keep track of the changes you yourself are making to the document.

The Things That Make Office 2010 Surpass its Predecessors

Office Home and Business 2010
Every time Microsoft creates a new platform, there are bound to be improvements and even changes that were not there the last time around. If you’re picking up Office 2010 Home and Business, then you will surely experience what wasn't there in 2007 or 2003.

Of course, it’s tempting to want to stay with the current Office suite you have. Personally, I am still nostalgic for XP or even Windows 2000 in spite of the many things that Windows 7 can offer. But upgrading is essential if you want to be current and it will surely benefit your small/medium enterprise if your technology is the best of the best.

That being said here are some of the most prominent features of Office 2010:

Backstage View

Have you gotten used to the File menu over the past 2 decades or so? Then Backstage view is a slick new GUI that lets you see all the basic functions from file saving to printing and publishing. These are displayed as icons every time you click on the File tab on the Ribbon. Now, the Ribbon was an addition that began in the 2007 version of the app but Office 2010’s Backstage View is guaranteed to give you a much simpler yet bolder experience of initiating the basic functions of Word 2010, for instance.

Being Able to Preview Pasting

Paste Preview is so important because you may alter your formatting every time you lift material from a website. You will also know, a minute before hand if you have copied the right thing or not. Even so, as you Paste Preview, you are also able to adjust the layout, so this helps, greatly so that any and all alterations will be prevented before you begin.

Photo Editing inside PowerPoint itself

Long ago, you have always been able to paste images on Microsoft PowerPoint, but with Office 2010, you can now even edit these same photographs within the app itself.  Now, this may not be a substitute for getting Adobe Photoshop CS 6 – but being able to tweak pictures right in the document is a convenience that is sure to benefit many who are conscious of their layout during presentations.

These are just some of the ways you can benefit from Office Home and Business 2010. Just like Windows 7 or Windows 8, it make take some time to adjust to the application. But remember, practice becomes habit and habit becomes second nature.
